Waterloo Community Theatre is a Community Interest Company (CIC) which means we are a not-for-profit social enterprise. Our aim is to make theatre accessible to all young people living in the Waterloo and South Bank area. We do this by providing affordable weekly drama sessions for our young members. We want the young people to build sustainable relationships with the culture venues located in our neighbourhood, as research has shown that early engagement and developed theatre-literacy is more likely to lead to sustained engagement (and enjoyment!)
We recognise that not all families are able to take their young people to the theatre regularly and this is where we come in; our aim is not just to provide affordable drama workshops, but also to act as the facilitators that support the youngsters in transitioning from theatre-makers to theatre-goers through regular visits.
We hope that by taking part in this process the young people will develop confidence and a sense of entitlement to the theatre venues in our neighbourhood, and grow up to fully engage with and enjoy the arts in general and theatre in particular.
